Spring...

..will surely be here soon.

Yes, yes, I know there might be snow forecast for this week, but come on, lets think positively...
Spring = not wearing big thick winter coats, and that (of course) means.... bracelet and bangle season is almost upon us!!

Yippeeeeee......

Although I've got my classic sterling silver bangles listed, which are polished, or hammered, but mostly STACKED I've also been working on some little charm bangles...

And I'm working on some stone set charm bracelets too, as well as silver "dot" cuffs (reminiscent of my silver dot ring) which are coming along nicely...  pics soon I promise!

But though I've got a bit bangle obsessed this month, it's still about the bracelets too - here's my current fave, a supremely sparkly amethyst bracelet...

What do you prefer, bangles, or bracelets?

Measuring for a ring.

As I'm making a lot more rings these days (and absolutely, completely and utterly loving making them!!). I thought it would be useful to write up how to measure your ring size.

The most reliable method is to use one of those finger sizers. You know the ones I mean, the set of plastic rings that you try on until you get the perfect fit. You can either buy a cheap finger sizer  or go to a jewellery shop and get them to size your finger for you. Or you could measure an existing ring that fits perfectly on a ring gauge.

If it's not possible to do the above, an easy (but less accurate) alternative is to measure your finger at home as follows...

Step 1 cut out a piece of paper around 10cm long and 1cm wide.
Step 2 wrap around your finger until a comfortable fit - not too tight, but not too loose.
Step 3 make a pen mark where the paper ring forms a complete circle.
Step 4 measure from the end of the paper to the line and let me know the exact measurements in mm or refer to the table below

Ring Size (UK)Measurement (mm) Ring Size (UK)Measurement (mm)
A37.8 N53.8
B39.1 O55.1
C40.4 P56.3
D41.7 Q57.6
E42.9 R58.9
F44.2 S60.2
G45.5 T61.4
H46.8 U62.7
I48.0 V64.0
J48.7 W65.3
K50.0 X66.6
L51.2 Y67.8
M52.5 Z68.5

I will then make your custom ring to fit your finger exactly!

The do it yourself method is less accurate, but do remember - if you're anything like me, your ring size could also vary according to the weather, the time of month, any medication you're on, etc.... so just take this into account when you're measuring.

I also found these tips for those who are buying a ring as a gift and need to try and figure out the right size secretly... http://groomsadvice.com/2010/02/08/how-to-secretely-find-her-engagement-ring-size/

And as ever, I'm open to custom ring designs - let me know your stone and band preference and I'll make something perfect for you!

Bye bye 2012.....

....and hello 2013.

I admit I'm usually itching to get the house cleaned up and "de-Christmassed" from Boxing Day onwards, but now it's all over and the dust has settled, the house seems so empty without the Christmas decs... And it'll be even emptier tomorrow when the kids go back. (sniffle)

I just couldn't say goodbye to some bits of Christmas, so this will be hanging on our back gate for a little while.

But truly, if I never see another piece of cheese again it'll be too soon.

I can't wait to get back to work properly tomorrow. I have a feeling 2013 is going to be a very good year. I've got lots of ideas - I just need to make them real.

Happy (slightly belated) New Year to you all.

Christmas Goodies

Wow - I have been stunned, amazed, and chuffed to bits by the overwhelming support from my customers over the last few weeks. I don't think I've ever had so many sales and I'm LOVING it.

It's especially gratifying when customers come back for repeat orders. What a confidence boost!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.... and I do hope all the recipients of the goodies are pleased with their gifts. I honestly think there is something really special about receiving something that has been handmade, rather than churned out in a factory. And handmade jewellery is an especially lovely gift (but then, I would say that wouldn't I?).

Remember all of my handmade jewellery is sent gift wrapped, and ready to give (but lovely to keep!). Most items come in white recycled card gift boxes, padded with tissue paper, and tied with red ribbon.

I'm at the post office every day at the moment, and send all of my parcels first class recorded post.

But we're nearing the end of the Christmas period, so I thought I'd better give you a heads up of my last order dates for Christmas presents.

I'm closing shop for a the festive period at the end of Tuesday 18th December.

I'll be back again, freshly stocked and ready for action in 2013. (crikey - 2013!) My Valentines range is already being planned.
